bubbles and bodies

life drawing in Kansas City

Bubbles and Bodies is a life drawings series held at Greenwood Social Hall which began as a collaboration between fine artist Peregrine Honig and Ca Va, a champagne bar that was located in the Westport neighborhood of Kansas City.

Think paint-and-sip, but elevated. Chilled sparking wine is provided. Cost is generally $20 cash or venmo at the door.

Figure drawing—whether the body is draped or bare—is a holy meeting place.

ARTISTS / STUDENTS

When you enter this space, you step into a sanctuary of seeing. To protect that sanctuary, here are some guidelines and expectations:

No photographs. Not whispered, not requested, not implied. The host will document longer poses for the class to assist models in returning to their places.

No touching. The model’s body is not a tool or a prop.

Honor the model’s space. Keep a respectful distance—five to six feet at minimum—before, during, and after the session.

Let silence be your courtesy. Unless the model initiates conversation, allow them the quiet they need to remain grounded in their work. A soft “hello” or a gentle “thank you” is enough.

This is not a place for flirtation or curiosity about someone’s private life. The model is working. You are working. Let the professionalism of the space serve you both.

Do not comment on the model’s body. If you wish to acknowledge their contribution, speak in the language of art—gesture, form, line—and direct your words through the instructor.

Remember: the model stands (or sits, or stretches, or rests) in a position of profound vulnerability so that you may learn. Treat that offering with the highest respect.

What can you do? Create boldly. Study deeply. Speak with your fellow artists. Ask your instructor questions. Hold this room as a place of craft, curiosity, and shared humanity.

INSTRUCTORS / FACILITATORS

Those guiding the room agree to:

Champion the comfort of the model. If anything disrupts their sense of safety, it will be addressed immediately—whether that means adjusting the room, dismissing a participant, or shifting the session’s flow.

Maintain the sanctity of the space. Only artists participating in the session may be present. No spectators, no passersby.

Handle all payments to the model. Compensation flows through the facilitator, ensuring clarity and respect.

Steward the atmosphere. Timekeeping, music, electronics—everything should support the creative environment, not distract from it.

MODELS

Models agree to:

Arrive on time and communicate promptly if something unexpected arises.

Bring a robe or covering for transitions and breaks.

Keep conversation minimal while posing, speaking primarily with the instructor to express needs or adjustments.

Ask permission before sharing artists’ work on social platforms, and always credit the creator.

All payment goes through the host and is distributed between the model(s), the instructor, and the venue at the end of each session.

EVERYONE

Kindness is the ground we stand on. Respect is the air we breathe. Offer critique only when invited. Hold each other gently in this shared act of creation.
