Daul Lee bio:
Born in Wichita, Kansas, Daul Lee started playing classical piano at age 4 and began studying jazz at age 14. Daul is a very active composer who premiered an arrangement of "Butch and Butch" by Oliver Nelson for Camila Meza, three big band charts for the award-winning Jazz Ensemble 1 at the University of Kansas, and one piece for studio orchestra. In addition to writing many pieces for small groups, Daul also runs a quartet called "The Atelier", which merges compositional concepts from Western European Classical music and stylistic and artistic concepts from Black American Music to pay homage to fantastical media. Daul is also a very active pianist who plays regularly in Lawrence and Kansas City, having played with Eddie Moore, Kapten, Indra, Golf on Television, and the Paxton Harvey Elektrik Band. Daul has traveled with the KU Jazz Ensemble to the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, and throughout various concerts in Spain. As a member of Kapten, Daul traveled through the South and the Midwest with Dalima Kapten. Daul currently studies under Eddie Moore and Daniel Gailey at the University of Kansas and prepares to graduate with a degree in Engineering Physics and a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance.
