Free and accessible: Introducing an exciting new All-Ages Concert Series from Greenwood Social Hall

Greenwood Social Hall is proud to introduce Music on the Move, a new outreach program made possible through a generous national arts grant from the Live Music Society. This initiative brings free performing arts experiences directly to students, families, and communities throughout Kansas City — both in local schools and in our historic listening room.

“When I was a child, I was enraptured by the singers in my church, and I was lucky to grow up surrounded by live music,” says Calvin Arsenia, Director of Greenwood Social Hall. “Today, opportunities for young people to experience music up close are increasingly rare. Greenwood once served as an African-American church, and it feels right to honor that legacy by continuing to offer the connection and spirit that music brings — to everyone.”

Through this program, Greenwood will collaborate with artists, both local and global, to share live performances and personal stories that reveal the transformative power of music both at local schools and at Greenwood Social Hall. The immediacy of a live concert and the shared energy and emotional resonance help us listen more deeply, not only to sounds, songs and melodies - but to each other. For students, this experience can be life-shaping. For families it’s a much needed connective reminder that the arts are a space for joy, reflection, and community.

Music on the Move is built on the values of accessibility, connection, but most of all the cultivation of wonder. It meets people where they are — in classrooms, neighborhoods, and shared spaces — creating opportunities for all to experience the heartbeat of live performance.

With support from the Live Music Society, Greenwood continues its mission to serve as Kansas City’s trusted home for inspiration, storytelling, and the collective magic of the performing arts.
