Handmade Moments:
Celebrating 15 years of independent rabble-rousing, New Orleans-based roots duo Handmade Moments returns with their sixth studio album, Old Times. An earthy, authentic collection of both fresh and familiar compositions, the album explores raw vulnerabilities of the human condition in the group’s trademark eclectic, sardonic, activist style. Bypassing traditional studio spaces, multi-instrumentalists Anna Moss and Joel Ludford tracked the album completely live inside their home living room. With their patented blend of searing harmonies atop bass clarinet, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, upright bass, and tag-team beatboxing, the pair creates a delightful document that finally captures the intimacy, immediacy, and elusive, sub-heavy soundscapes of their celebrated live sets. In addition to a smattering of patented ear-worm duets, Old Times boasts collaborations with Crescent City heroes like punk-jazz cellist Helen Gillett, virtuoso pianist Oscar Rosignoli, and sousaphone maven Miles Lyons of SOUL Brass Band. Old Times reflects on Moss and Ludford’s decade-plus of musical decadence, from humble busking in the streets and on commuter trains, to playing huge festival stages across several continents, sometimes in the same week. Handmade Moments' latest offering presents an unvarnished mixture of introspective, anti-capitalist commentary and elements of New Orleans traditions. Packaged in historic bootleg artwork rediscovered from a wild, early-career survival saga in Argentina, Old Times serves as an embodiment of the past and a firm declaration for the now, via a fiercely original, uncompromising act.
Gina Leslie:
Gina Leslie is searching for truth and beauty in New Orleans. Her debut LP “I Love You Always No Matter What Happens,” out June 5th, comes as a guidebook to times of loss, uncertainty and change. This 10 song lush collection of songs serves as a suit and armor for the inner child, an olive branch, a warm embrace. A follow up to her cult-classic heartbreak EP “No, You’re Crying”, these songs beckon the listener through an internal journey, leaving an aftertaste of psychedelic peacefullness. Recorded in a basement studio with co-producer and musical kin Nat Smith, this album showcases tender and timeless songwriting and delivery - bangers and bops, ballads and anthems for the ages.
